PL130 Gallery presents this year's digitizing show, A Philadelphia Bagel Story!
Reception November 17th 6-8pm, on view from November 13 - December 3, 2023
The Philly bagel scene is having a moment. Neighborhood bagel shops compete to outdo each other with unique toppings and schmears. Bagels are now artisan crafted, personality driven, local, abundant and finite, a guilty pleasure mixed with self care, curated, better when toasted and great with coffee. Each shop is born with a unique origin story, and A Philadelphia Bagel Story brings this truly vintage bakery in the Logan neighborhood of Philadelphia to life through photographs.
Like many digitizing requests that PhotoLounge receives, this collection of images preserves a core part of a family’s history. With the help of our digitizing team, now the bakery’s traditions and memories can live on for the future generations to come.
Even though we cannot enjoy Rosen’s Famous today, we can at least get a behind-the-scenes look at the space, people, and process. We hope viewers will hold the collection in mind the next time they visit their favorite bagel shop in the city.
The PL130 Gallery at PhotoLounge opened in 2021 with a mission to raise the voices of a diverse photo community and to show important new work by emerging photographers. For the sake of equity, the gallery eschewed any costs associated with entering or exhibiting shows. Rather, costs are sponsored entirely by an active Film Photography Club where members pay $8 in monthly dues to support local art. All work is printed by PhotoLounge on museum-quality substrates and hung unframed.
