PhotoLounge Presents Season Three
We are excited to announce Season Three of PhotoLounge Presents! Curated by Rebecca Arthur. PLP is a curated series where guest curators turn the lens on emerging photographers and provide a glimpse of their oeuvre and what inspires them. This season will be unveiled twice a month on our Gallery Blog and Instagram over the coming months.
Curator’s Message
For season three of PhotoLounge Presents, I have decided to feature work exclusively made by Black photographers and image-makers. The artists presented have an exquisite sense of how to embody personal experience within an image and share insights that divulge an essence of love and care. I was drawn to these artists by the way their imagery operates as a means of communication with themselves, in relation to the world and within the community of relationships that ebb through their spheres. While these artists approach their practices through disparate lenses, they all share a through-line that touches on the linguistic modalities of an image. Their work serves as monuments to the critical language surrounding imaginative and sometimes impossible questions that are still awaiting.
Curator Bio
Rebecca Arthur (she/they) is a photographer and image-maker currently living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She considers herself a storyteller. Much of their work stems from their personal questions and inquiries about the themes of family, identity and home. Arthur’s goal is to allow their photographs to incite discourse about how we come to understand ourselves and others through the lens of our collective and disparate histories and identities.
