What we liked: Self-portraits are a wonderful way to explore different techniques and experiment with composition. Exhibiting surrealistic qualities through duplicated reflections and abstraction, this photo welcomed us to stop and stare. Enshrouded in darkness, we don’t know where we are, creating a layer of mystery that pairs well with the visually complex flaring from the camera’s flash. Her hands also attract great focus for their careful positioning, with each finger following its own path while wrapped around the camera. The photographer’s use of black & white further complements the interesting elements at play.
