What We Liked: In this very philosophical week of submissions, no two photos were alike. This one stood out to us as the best illustration of the theme for how it balances multiple elements: vibrancy and flatness, light and shadow, as well as positive space and negative space. The colorful street scene, bathed in light, comes to life like a painting as it is framed and contrasted by the barren cement building and its square window, cast in shadow. We also appreciated how the building photographer’s shadow is balanced by the lone pedestrian on the street below. The multi-layered photograph leaves much for the viewer to take notice of.
